A line up haircut is a trendy style for men. It has neat, sharp lines along the hairline, temples, and part. These straight edges make the hair look well-shaped. You can combine a line up with other styles like pompadours, fades, or undercuts.

Also called a shape up or edge up, this haircut is popular for its neat look and sharp, clean lines. It looks even better when paired with a skin fade and crisp angles at the temples.

Adding a line up to your favorite men’s hairstyle can make the entire look stand out. It also creates sharp contrast and clear edges that highlight your natural face shape and show off your masculine features.

The line up is a flexible style that looks good with any haircut, especially shorter ones. “Shorter hair is usually best for a line up,” says Elite barber and Visionz Barbershop owner Jose Tapia, “but line ups work with any hair length.” Whether you have a man bun or a buzz cut haircut, you will get sharp edges and a neat, defined style.

“Short hair line ups need little to no upkeep,” he says. To keep it looking sharp, visit your barber once a month. Remind your barber not to cut too much into the hairline. Keeping it natural is best. You don’t want your hairline to end up too high.

Take a look at these photos of the top line up haircuts before your next trip to the barbershop. They might inspire your new style.

#1: Men’s Double Line Up Design

#2: Crew Cut + Line Up for Receding Hairline

If you have thinning hair, a crew cut with a line-up works great for a receding hairline. No one really wants to be bald. Keep in mind, cutting the sides shorter makes the hair on top look longer and thicker.

#3: Side-Swept Line Up Style

Go for a side-swept line up style to get a sharp, neat haircut that matches well with your beard. The semi-undercut leaves some length on top, making it easy to sweep your hair to the side. The clear line up shapes your hairline, giving it a crisp, clean look. Remember, you will need to trim this style every 2-3 weeks, based on how fast your hair grows.

#4: High Top with a Line Up

The high top with a line-up is a timeless haircut popular among black men. A neat skin fade on the sides always looks sharp, but don’t make it too high or it might look disconnected. Use a curl sponge to add texture and style to the top.

#5: Spiky Line Up Cut

A spiky line up cut works best for people with medium to thick hair. The sides are faded close around the ears, with a sharp line up at the temple and a bold line leading to the top. This haircut is easy to care for. A quick blow-dry and some styling powder will keep your hair looking great all day.

#6: Wavy Top with Faded Line Up

This wavy hairstyle with a faded line-up works great for thick, coarse hair. The sides are shaved close to the skin near the ears and blend smoothly into the textured waves on top. It’s simple and fast to style. Use a texturizing clay or styling paste to get the best look.

#7: Messy Hairstyle with Line Up

A messy hairstyle with a line up combines two great styles. The line up creates a sharp, clean edge on top using special blades and waxing. To keep it looking fresh, you need to visit the barber often. The messy part adds texture, movement, and makes the style easy to wear and change.

#8: Textured Short Top with a Line Up

If you want to try a fresh hairstyle, a textured short top with a line up is a great option. The textured top creates a simple yet bold look that stands out. Pair it with a sharp line up and any skin fade to complete this stylish haircut.

#19: Sharp Line Up Haircut

This lineup is a popular haircut known as the gentleman’s cut. It features shaved, skin-tight sides and a sharp, clean hairline. The hair design was created by barber Rob Ramirez from Turlock, CA.

“I suggest keeping some length on top so you have enough hair to style. Also, use pomade and invest in a good brush and blow-dryer to get a great look,” Ramirez advises men interested in this style.

#20: Line Up with Low Fade

This low fade haircut with a straight razor line up is a timeless, trendy, and fresh style created by California stylist Javier Hernandez.

“Fades have been popular for a long time. They look good and can improve your style. You can always count on a fade to look great. Fades are still trendy, and I think they will stay popular,” Hernandez says.

Before getting a low skin fade with a line up, Hernandez suggests making sure your hair type and the length on top are right for styling.

He recommends, “choose the right products to style your hair. A fade usually works well with most face shapes. It’s amazing how a good haircut can boost your confidence and change how you look and feel.”

#21: Line Up with Shaved Designs

This is a very short, tidy, and modern line up haircut. It uses a number 4 guard on top with a skin fade on the sides. Texas barber Michael Kelly says the best part of this style is how it highlights sharp lines and smooth fades.

Kelly recommends this style for men who want a daring look and enjoy regular trips to the barbershop. Since it is very short, it requires little daily styling. Still, you should get it trimmed and lined up every two weeks or sooner.

Kelly says this haircut works best for men with round heads, a strong jawline, and smooth head shape without many bumps. It needs almost no styling time. It’s perfect if you want a quick, easy look.

#22: Line Up Cut With Drop Fade and Beard

This lineup haircut features a classic slick side part paired with a modern mid-drop fade. The fade smoothly connects to the beard, while the hair on top is kept medium to long in length.

Los Angeles barber Nate Alexander says, “I really like how the thick, dark hair on top fades smoothly into a bald finish. The curved line around the temple makes it stand out.”

These men’s hairstyles look best on straight or wavy hair with a well-defined facial structure.

Alexander suggests using a shiny pomade or a strong hold gel for styling. He says this easy-to-manage haircut will last all day without much effort.

#23: Line Up with Pompadour for Long Hair

This hairstyle features a lineup with a pompadour that gives men’s hair more volume. Massachusetts barber Omar Diaz designed it to match the shape of the face and the size of the head.

Diaz worked with a man who had thick hair, a narrow face, and a short forehead. He chose a high fade with a sharp, clean look. “I started by cutting the hair at 90 degrees and used 45-degree angles. Next, I added texture near the nape and through the middle to reduce bulk. Finally, I created the fade and added a line along the forehead,” Diaz explains.

Once the haircut was done, Diaz washed the hair, then dried and polished it until it looked shiny. To finish, he applied Pacinos matte wax and a strong, quick-drying spray.
